North Loop welcomes new dudes with new brews

Ok, so you've probably seen, visited, or at least heard of the new Modist Brewing in the North Loop neighborhood. They just had their official grand opening over the weekend and it was so successful that they had to take a few days off to catch up on beer! Don't worry though, they will re-open Thursday or Friday, whew!

I didn't make it to the Grand Opening but got to pop in to test out the brews a few days before. First off, the space is absolutely stunning - white and shiny with pops of color and industrial fixtures seems like a perfect fit for this neighborhood. It doesn't hurt that the logo and branding itself can hold it's own; I love every detail, the white signage on the white tile wall, the little "M" stamps at the door, the menus, fixtures and their name written in tile on the floor.

They have a great open space with a huge sit up bar that's quite pleasing, plus a great little outdoor space that opens up from the interior. Right now this spot on 3rd Street is fairly quiet, snuggled across from Darby's but I have a hunch that this little nook will soon be buzzing.

Their beer is brewed differently than most micro brews and they are pushing the limits of the brew industry. They have built equipment that allows them to brew 100% oat beer (if they want to). "Toats" is the beer that demonstrates this method best, made with 60% oats - it's hoppy, citrusy and drinkable year round.

"Calibration" is the very first beer they made - also very drinkable, made with pilsner and american hops. I think this is a particularly good summer drinking beer when you want something with a little more flavor.

"Phresh" was probably my least favorite but that's only because I'm a hops fan... It has a slight sweetness to it and a refreshing citrus taste for the warmer months, although it will be sold year round.

I have to point out that it's refreshing to see a different take on the micro brew scene; they also are selling cans (no growlers) for take home purposes. I think they definitely made a splash in the North Loop.

They're all worth trying, and they have more brews that will join the menu soon so stay tuned and stop on in! Cool dudes, beautiful space and BEER! What's not to like? It's always so awesome to hear that our little Minneapolis neighborhoods are expanding and trying new things.

Cheers!
